Titanium Wedding
Titanium wedding ring?
My boyfriend and I have been looking at engagement/wedding rings and we’re debating about what kind of metal to use for the ring. I’ve heard platinum is incredibly soft so it scratches, loses its shine, and the prongs don’t hold the stones too well. I’ve heard white gold yellows and frequently needs re-dipping. I’m thinking about titanium. Any comments? Are there and down sides to titanium? How does it compare to white gold or platinum as far as price, durability, looks, shine, and scratch-wear go?

I have platinum and my husband has titanium. I think that for most men plat. is too soft, not to mention really expensive in mens rings because they are typically thick and heavy. Titanium is great for men because it is really durable, my husband opens beer bottles with his and there isn’t a single dent in it, but it can not be resized so you will possibly have to get him a new ring down the road. On the plus side men’s fingers don’t change in size as much as women’s.
On to Platinum, for you unless you work very hard with your hands, should be fine. While the rhodium wears off of the platinum in time, they rhodium dip all white metal rings before selling them, the ring doesn’t become that dull. I’ve had my ring for almost 6 years and the only place that it is scratched or dull is on the under side that you can’t see anyways. As for the prongs platinum prongs are stronger than gold, just be sure that you get a ring with nice heavy prongs. One downside to platinum is the price, it is very expensive.
White gold is pretty and affordable for a white metal. With wear some white gold will start to yellow, although very slightly. The higher quality gold you buy the less likely it will yellow. It is a great white metal that is affordable.
Titanium is durable and affordable, titaniumera.com is a great site with lots of neat styles of rings. Overstock.com has a great selection of men’s rings super cheap, there really isn’t a quality difference with titanium it is not an expensive metal, just differences in price based on complexity of design.
