Titanium. The name alone calls to mind pictures of strength and durability. What more appropriate symbol for the fidelity and commitment of a wedding band could there be? Jewelry designers are always seeking something novel, something different. After several thousand years and billions of bands produced, this may seem an unattainable task. Yet, the infinite creativity of craftsmen has always been up to it. One of their newest efforts is titanium Wedding Bands.
Titanium is among the strongest metals. It takes considerable force to cause a titanium band to get out of round. Unlike Gold Bands, for instance, catching your hand in the car door is unlikely to bend one. It can be scratched, yet not easily. A bit of polishing and it will look like new again.
Durability is one reason why titanium makes its way into jets and other high-tech applications. But there’s another: it’s ultra-light, about one-third the weight of gold. Many enjoy the light as air feel of a titanium band. It sits lightly on the hand and offers no opposition to moving the finger. For those who spend so much time at the computer nowadays that can be a big plus.
Wearers need have no concerns about not being able to remove a titanium band in an emergency. In rare instances, a gold band can be bent into a finger, resulting in painful pressure. That is less likely with titanium. However, if it should take place, the band can be cut off just like any other. A swollen finger that makes a titanium band impossible to take off can be alleviated in the same way as any other type.
Natural titanium is a grayish metal, not unlike stainless steel, just brighter. It polishes to a high sheen and, because it is so hard, can be made into stunning designs. Those qualities make for a subtle, yet ultra-elegant and distinctive style of jewelry. It can also be treated throughout the manufacturing process to produce a lustrous black. Be sure, though, to get a bona fide black titanium band, not one that has simply been coated and will need to be retreated.
Titanium, while seemingly so common, has amazing properties that make it an ideal foundation for engagement and wedding bands.
